Waitangi Day Holiday New Year prison

hard to keep up a travelogue. Actually, right now there is not much to tell because the days are alike. After enjoying some wonderful local discoveries, it is time to ask, curbing spending, or even earn a few dollars.
While the man went to the fields, I sink "painful days in jail" ... Not to worry, it's no longer a prison, just a former prison turned into a cheap hosting! To complete this disciplinary stay, I'll take care of making beds in the military, to polish the rudimentary furniture, waxing the floor and perform other tasks. In exchange for these services, daily menus, the bed and some other benefits are offered free of charge. Not a dull moment when 3 hours per day are spent making the place sparkling clean! Plus a few hours at the airport and various interviews. Time is no longer leisure and travel, but rather to work and sacrifice, like the building in which I spend my nights.

Sometimes Sometimes I escape these walls to feel the heat of the sun keeps shining and soak up the euphoria of a city summer vacation. A festival of street art has just begun and attracts artists from around the world. Lying in the grass of the park, watch the acrobats, listen to the musician, comedian laugh while smelling the smell of pancakes ... Hard work deserves some reward simple and free ...

Such a long journey can only be filled with good times. However, even during these time restrictions, the traveler's mind remains alert. Meet people from different backgrounds, exchange ideas or destination more often discover new facets of his person and seek his own limits remain the essential contribution of the journey, the sense of desire indeed.
Like a juggler walking on a wire, I am a traveler seeking the balance between movement and slow, geographical discoveries and saving money, self-awareness and openness to others, monotonous and impromptu adventure. Thus I consider this trip, hoping that a virtuous rate needed during the coming months this expedition to the Antipodes.

Problems With Jamba Juice

History to mark the transition to a new year, Julian and I are joined at Wanaka resort surrounded by the pristine waters of a glacial lake at the foot of the Southern Alps. Known as THE place to celebrate a worthy of the name Eve, youth can be found here and invaded hotels, campgrounds, bars and restaurants. Not easy to get a place when we come here after a day of work without having booked any accommodation (that is mission impossible anyway because everything is booked months in advance). Cooks finish their service 21h, so we want our ravalons a good meal for us back on pizza. At the end of the meal, a tourist couple comes up and confesses to Albi and Bagneres ... We give them a place and begin the conversation. Outside the rain keeps falling and gently refreshes the enthusiasm of babes and playboy drunk. A decree prohibits the consumption of alcohol in the street, people may have interpreted this prohibition as an invitation to drink more and faster at home before you put your head out! ...
Our evening did not drag. Queues to slip in a few bars stretch over midnight approaches. We note just twelve shots, finish our beer and return to our car suddenly appreciate the silence disturbed by echoes from a party not quite finished.
The next day the sun came out and the clouds give way to the tops of mountains. We understand better the popularity of vacationers to come and enjoy the place to escape the work-sleep rhythm.
The road to return to Christchurch is dotted with hills, open spaces pristine vegetation, slightly bleached peaks, glacial lakes with exceptional color dazzles. The place deserves attention longer another time, when winter has certainly covered the mountains of snow and when the tourists will be too chilly to drive their cars recklessly and motorhomes. Roll on winter!

Christmas in the sun

Christmas ... Meals endless fireside, foie gras, chocolates and stuffed turkeys; cold, wind, snow sometimes, sharing gifts galore, family gatherings, holiday ... But what about for all travelers on this planet orbiting far from their families and alone in their hostel or budget hotel? Actually, Christmas is a day like any other, since nothing special is really intended.
We would use the Internet to send the traditional vows, but soon you realize that Christmas is not a normal day for all, not a single trader does is dedicated to open its doors from lonely ... So, watching TV, we tell our ways of celebrating Christmas at home, we remember the best dinners, the most beautiful gifts, Christmas the most magical ... That's when we said that we are no longer children, yet neither of the parents, and that Christmas does not mean much. Nestled in the sofas of youth hostel, the 4 or 5 U.S. expatriates and myself we gluons on the diffusing screen, 'Mama I missed the plane'. It has seen dozens of times before but had never before realized how much the film is rather depressed when you find yourself as the hero, to spend this special time of the year alone! Christmas Eve will take place and therefore, almost as if nothing had happened.
Against all odds and any previously prepared plan, on Christmas Day will be one of the most memorable ever spent! After Julian joined me, we come across a young local all excited to have a few lost travelers looking to share a good Christmas lunch only New Zealanders. Without much hesitation, we accept trying not to feel too uncomfortable in our clothes and our hands crumpled empty! Argentine-Australian couple following us with a bottle of wine and cheese to offer. Soon we find ourselves seated with a family including 3 of 4 children living away from home and whose parents are trying to recreate a family atmosphere and lively. Finally, this Christmas will be more special than all others because it's never been as full of simplicity, tolerance and spontaneity! To cap the day so unexpected, we enjoy the sun we walk around the Otago Peninsula. On the beach, we meet lots of travelers who have certainly not had the chance to be invited, dozens of sea lions larvae on the sand and 2 penguins returning from fishing!
Christmas has been more successful than he appeared to be! We will try to remember and if the opportunity arises to live at a Christmas single backpackers to the local way of the country visited.
